Opera Workshop

The purpose of University of Alberta's Opera Workshop is to prepare students for the demanding and competitive world of opera.

We offer a comprehensive training program, giving each student opportunities to perform and work in a supportive and positive atmosphere. The assignments and responsibilities of each student are appropriate to them as an individual and based on their abilities and their progress throughout the course. A variety of styles of repertoire will be explored in depth.

Opera Workshop offers a range of studies including repertoire coachings, diction coachings, acting and movement classes, stage makeup, and when the production calls for it, we will work on dance, fencing and stage combat. Each year, Opera Workshop presents students performing at Convocation Hall in opera productions including evenings of opera scenes as well as fully staged productions with orchestra.

Auditions are held the first week of classes. Please consult the ensemble auditions information tab to the left for more information.
