The Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute (NMHI) is a multi-faculty, interdisciplinary teaching and research Translational Science Institute (TSI). Members of the NMHI are dedicated to the exploration of how our nervous system functions, the basis for disease, and the translation of discoveries into improved prevention and treatment options for people worldwide. We achieve this by enabling active collaboration among Institute members, together with partners in health delivery and individuals with lived experience of neuroscience/mental health-related disorders, their families and respective communities of care.
The NMHI includes academic training programs (Honours BSc, MSc, PhD), basic and clinical research, knowledge translation, knowledge dissemination, and implementation of health evidence in communities of practice. The nervous system remains one of the great scientific mysteries, and an understanding of its functions has implications beyond biology and health and into the very foundations of human society.
