Program Requirements

The Honors in Neuroscience Program will introduce students to the major areas of neuroscience and provides an opportunity for each student to explore a research interest in their final year. Students can enter the program out of high school or transfer from another university or program.

For applicants entering from high school, the first two years include a number of foundational science courses. Third- and fourth-year courses focus more directly on brain structure and function, with lectures emphasizing different aspects of cellular, molecular, systems and cognitive neuroscience. Please review the University of Alberta Academic Calendar for more information.

Fourth-year students apply their classroom knowledge and gain hands-on research experience in a neuroscience laboratory of their choice during individual study projects with an NMHI faculty member.

Students are required to maintain a full course load (*30 in each Fall/Winter term) and a 3.3 GPA in all fours years of the program.
