Post-doctoral fellow with Dr. Pagliardini: Systematic preclinical evaluation of cannabinoid components on sleep and breathing

We are currently recruiting a PDF with interest in the modulatory effects of Cannabis on sleep and respiratory control for a Team Grant project funded by CIHR (Systematic preclinical evaluation of cannabinoid components on sleep and breathing) to Drs. Pagliardini, Funk, Jackson, Dickson, and MacLean. The project investigates physiological changes associated with chronic and acute exposure of cannabinoid components in rodents to systematically address their effects on neural development and respiratory control across brain states.

The ideal candidate must have a recent doctoral degree (PhD) in physiology, neuroscience or related fields and evidence of publication history in the field of respiratory or systems neurophysiology/neuroscience. Applicants with previous experience in rodent stereotaxic surgery, EEG and EMG recordings, plethysmography and sleep analysis will have priority in the selection. Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently and together with a research team, and aptitude to train and mentor undergraduate and graduate students are also necessary attributes.

The successful candidate will work in a highly interactive, multi disciplinary environment and will benefit from the expertise of strong respiratory control and brain network groups present at the University of Alberta.

The University of Alberta is one of Canada’s top teaching and research universities, home to 39,000 national and international students. The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions and is internationally recognized as among the world’s top 100 medical schools. The Department of Physiology has been recently ranked 34th in the world in the QS World University Research Rankings.
