The Cameron Visiting Scholar in Northern and Circumpolar Research is a non-salaried position.

Costs covered include:

• Travel expenses: One economy return flight to Edmonton or kilometer allowance ($0.50 per km) if using ground transportation.
• Per diem: Maximum $70/day, as per University of Alberta rates.
• Accommodation: Maximum $200 per day for a minimum length of stay of one week or up to $2,000 per month.
• Other expenses may be considered, depending upon the applicant's particular circumstances.

There is no funding provision for travel for family members.

In accordance with the terms of the Cameron Endowment, funds cannot be used for travel for research or fieldwork or attendance at conferences or workshops during the term of the visit.

Depending upon the number of applications and availability of funds, the UAlberta North may host more than one Visiting Scholar in a given academic year.

The Cameron Visiting Scholar will be provided with office space and given access to the University's libraries and their electronic resources. This program does not provide administrative support.

The Cameron Visiting Scholars may be scholars from other Canadian and international universities, community practitioners involved in research, monitoring, policy and governance, or those employed in Indigenous and territorial institutions and governments in Canada.

Applications can be submitted directly by the applicant, or by a University of Alberta faculty member on an applicant's behalf.

 The application should contain:

• A cover letter, containing (a) intended timing of the visit, (b) a statement of activities to be undertaken, and (c) names of academic(s) at the University of Alberta whose work is most closely related to that of the Visiting Scholar
• Statement of the intended research agenda or project (one page).

The minimum length of a visit is one week, and the maximum is one month. However, longer visits may be considered. A scholar's visit may start at any time in the calendar year that is consistent with achieving effective interaction with faculty and students on campus.

The expectation is that the Visiting Scholar will have a presence on campus for the majority of their time and will contribute to the teaching and research environment of the University of Alberta.

The Visiting Scholar will be expected to deliver a UAlberta North sponsored public lecture, lectures/talks or seminars related to their research or work experience, or guest lectures in relevant northern/circumpolar-related courses at the University of Alberta, and to be available for consultation with faculty and students.
