Florence Myrick

My clinical practice was primarily in the area of acute and adult critical care, specifically medical surgical intensive care nursing. I have also had the pleasure of nursing in Canada's north. I have been a nurse educator for many years and within that context have taught in undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs with my focus of teaching having been health assessment, research, knowledge development in nursing and philosophy of teaching in nursing.

My program of research is in the area of professional education in particular preceptorship. Having completed numerous studies from both a nursing and interprofessional perspective, as PI I have recently completed a study exploring how the provision of an ongoing structured online support program influences the teaching practices of preceptors with a view to enhancing teaching and learning in the clinical context. I have also recently co-investigated several other SSHRC funded research projects in the area of preceptorship and mentorship.
