Undergraduate Accredited Courses

  • Global Citizenship in Health (NURS 474): This course provides students with an opportunity to develop a deeper, more situated understanding of some of the key issues related to the relevance of global citizenship in health: a sense of social justice; environmental, social, economic and political responsibility; agency; inter-relatedness and an appreciation for cultural diversity.

     

  • Nursing Practice VIII in Global Health—(NURS 485): This clinical practicum course provides students with the opportunity to practice within a different geographical context and culturally distinct environment.  The clinical practicum involves 350 hours of practice working with a preceptor. This opportunity is currently offered in Accra, Ghana, through the University of Ghana.

  • Leadership in a Focused Area (NURS 425): This preceptored field experience provides opportunity to consolidate prior learning and develop confidence and competence as students transition to the role of the Registered Nurse. The course culminates in a capstone leadership project. The course requires 192 hours over 12 weeks.

  • Global Citizenship: Contemporary Issues and Perspectives (INT D 404 Online Course): This is an introductory course designed to provide students with the opportunity to engage with current literature and experts, as they aim to understand how global citizenship might frame the roles of individuals and communities with which they will interact in increasingly diverse social, economic, and political contexts that are not restricted by geographical or social boundaries. This course is open to all undergraduate students and offered in the Winter Term of 2019. This course can be used for elective credit.

  • Education Abroad: Global Perspectives (EXT 300): Gaining an awareness of one's own cultural perspectives and beliefs enables the development of intercultural understanding and competencies. By focusing on intercultural principles and practices, students engaged in educational and experiential experiences abroad will: explore the concept of culture and cultural variations; develop awareness of how their own culture influences values, beliefs, and actions; gain an understanding of the core intercultural competencies; acquire competencies and skills critical for studying, working, and living globally. The course is delivered asynchronously online and is intended for students participating in an education abroad or study abroad experience.
