The Education and Research Archive (ERA) is a digital online storage place (repository) for research outputs.
The Faculty of Nursing is involved in a project with the University of Alberta Libraries to collect, deposit, and maintain research outputs of faculty on an ongoing basis in the university repository called ERA.
Very little, because the Nursing Research Office and ERA ensure deposit of all faculty articles on an ongoing basis!
Processes are in place for new faculty publications to appear in ERA with as little faculty time involvement as necessary. You will be notified of any deposits made. However, you may need to send a post-print version of some publications. An email will be sent to you from the ERA administrator keeping you updated and letting you know if any action is required.
Post-Prints: Most authors have not kept their post-print versions of articles, because they didn't really need to retain them before they encountered a service like ERA. It is recommended that authors search their email's 'All Mail' for these versions. You can start setting aside these versions as they are published by creating a documents folder called Post-Prints and keeping any post-prints in this folder.
Copyright: Often authors are asked to sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement (CTA), which may affect if an article can be deposited in ERA. You can start setting aside these agreements by creating a documents folder called Publishing Agreements or CTA Agreements and keeping all signed agreements with publishers in this folder. Also, consider using the Canadian SPARC Author Addendum, which is an addendum document you can send to a journal to ask for modification of your copyright agreement so that you can deposit the article in ERA.
Publications: Annually, ERA deposits will be checked against the Common CV to ensure that items are not missing. Please send the research librarian an email letting her know if any of your publications are missing. This project only involves the automatic deposit of journal articles. If you have conference papers, conference posters, book chapters, or even books that you would like to have deposited to ERA, please email the research librarian and she will investigate whether this is possible or not.
