Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship

About the Fellowship

The Division of Urogynecology in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Alberta offers a two-year clinical fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. Six FPMRS surgeons work out of a busy multidisciplinary clinic, which includes nurse continence advisors, nurse practionners, pelvic floor physiotherapists, a dietician, a pharmacist, and an exercise physiologist. Three of our FPMRS surgeons also work out of the Chronic Pelvic Pain clinic; selective time in this clinic is strongly encouraged during fellowship. We have an excellent working relationship with colorectal surgery, urology, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, and geriatrics. Selective rotations in these subspecialties are also strongly encouraged and supported throughout fellowship.

Our broad educational goals are to train academic Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgeons who will play a role in advancing our subspecialty. Specifically, fellows will develop expertise in the diagnostic work-up of complex female pelvic floor problems, develop conservative as well as surgical expertise in the management of these conditions, and achieve educational and research goals, by teaching learners formally and informally, and actualizing a research project, with the intent for presentation/publication during their fellowship training. Fellows will function as junior faculty, and will be integrated into the teaching and research programs of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
