Parking Services, UAlberta Protective Services (UAPS) and the Edmonton Police Service work hard to ensure that bike parking locations across campus are safe and secure. However, bike theft is still happening in Edmonton so it's important to take precautions to reduce your risk of being a victim of theft.

Tips for reducing bike theft:

  • Do not leave your unlocked bike unattended for even a short period of time.
  • Use a heavy duty u-lock and secure both the frame and one wheel to the bike rack.
  • For extra protection, add a cable lock to secure the second tire.

The best way for the RCMP to reunite bicyclists with their bike is if they know the serial number. Keep a copy of this number in a safe place so that police can confirm that the bike belongs to you if it is found.
