However, bike theft is still happening in Edmonton so it's important to take precautions to reduce your risk of being a victim of theft.
Tips for reducing bike theft:
- Do not leave your unlocked bike unattended for even a short period of time.
- Use a heavy duty u-lock and secure both the frame and one wheel to the bike rack.
- For extra protection, add a cable lock to secure the second tire.
The best way for the RCMP to reunite bicyclists with their bike is if they know the serial number. Keep a copy of this number in a safe place so that police can confirm that the bike belongs to you if it is found.
