It gives me great pleasure to feature the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta as a vibrant and dynamic organization of academic faculty. As with all great organizations, people are our strength. We are a diverse faculty of discovery and innovation scientists, researchers, investigators, educators and clinicians who come together to contribute across the four pillars of academic medicine.
The Department of Pediatrics is a collaborative group comprised of:
- 16 divisions
- 13 accredited postgraduate programs
- Over 140 academic faculty
- 21 postdoctoral fellows
- 150 clinical academic colleagues
- 95 postgraduate trainees
- 48 graduate students
- 210 administrative staff
Partnership is a key contributor to our success. We have vital collaborations with Alberta Health Services, the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and Covenant Health that build an unparalleled academic healthcare environment. The Women and Children’s Health Research Institute provides infrastructure, support and common goals to advance child health through discovery science, clinical research and innovation. And we treasure our partnership with the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation as a valued supporter of the work we do on behalf of children and their families.
The commitment and dedication of all the individuals and organizations together contributes to a rewarding and successful environment in the Department of Pediatrics. Our success can be measured through undergraduate and postgraduate medical education examinations, academic successes of our M.Sc. and PhD students, regional, national and international extramural funding support, and exemplary salary support. Quite simply put, the Department of Pediatrics is a magnet organization that nurtures and grows fulfilling and rewarding professional careers with the aim to improve child health.
