Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry involves the assessment, diagnosis and the treatment of disorders of thinking, feeling and/or behaviour affecting children, adolescents and their families. The Department of Psychiatry, along or in partnership with other departments couples basic science with clinical research to promote world-class investigations on issues relevant to mental health across the life span.

Pediatric Anesthesiology

The Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology at the Stollery Children's Hospital is focused on advancing pediatric anesthetic care, treating acute and chronic pain, and educating the next generation of anesthesiologists. All manner of anesthesia management for every surgical subspecialty is supported by a group of dedicated pediatric anesthesiologists. They also support a pediatric pre-assessment and consultation clinic, a high acuity PICU/NICU and a very busy out-of-OR pediatric sedation service. In partnership with Alberta Health Services and the Department of Pediatrics, the two divisions anticipate the development of an expanded and modernized operating room suite designed specifically for pediatric patients and their families.

Pediatric Medical Genetics

The Department of Medical Genetics involves the clinical and academic study of the etiology, pathogenesis and natural history of human diseases with genetic origins. Clinical medical genetic services include evaluation and diagnosis of genetic diseases for patients and families, along with the provision of genetic counseling.

Pediatric Pathology

Based out of the University of Alberta Hospital, the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology provides essential pediatric tissue diagnostic services for in-patients and out-patients within the teaching hospital system and for pediatric patients within the region. Together, the faculty covers the spectrum of perinatal and pediatric pathology services within the Edmonton Zone, and consults with other practices throughout the province and neighbouring provinces.

Pediatric Radiology

Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging is based at the University of Alberta Hospital and the Stollery Children's Hospital. Pediatric radiology provides a complete range of diagnostic services and interventional services to children across several western provinces using the most modern imaging technologies. Some of these services include oncologic, cardiac, interventional, and transplant cases. The department specializes in safe radiation dose and sedation techniques, in conjunction with pediatric anesthesiologists.

Pediatric Surgery

A division of the Department of Surgery, the Pediatric Surgery program offers patient care in all of the surgical disciplines including the following specialties: general surgery, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology/head and neck surgery, urology, neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, gynaecology, oral maxillo-facial surgery as well as hospital-based dentistry. A multi-disciplinary surgical team of physicians, nurses, child life & social workers, therapists, pharmacists and dietitians are dedicated to meeting the needs of patients and their families.
