Cardiology Residency Program

Program Highlights

  • The program is fully accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is also recognized by the American Board of Pediatrics.
  • Our service includes a busy cardiac surgical program which serves most of Western Canada.
  • The program provides excellence in subspecialty training in echocardiography (including fetal echo, transesophageal, three-dimensional and functional echo), cardiac MRI, cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, and transplant cardiology.
  • The catheterization/interventional program includes a wide variety of cases from Alberta and other parts of Western Canada. There is an active cardiac transplant and ventricular assist device program, with trainees gaining experience and training in both.
  • Dedicated pediatric electrophysiologists with an active ablation program. With our partners at the Alberta Children's Hospital the trainees have formal training in cardiac morphology.
  • Adult congenital cardiology is managed in the same campus at the University of Alberta.
  • Formal training program with protected time for learning, a strong evaluation process and a high standard of preparation for board exams in pediatric cardiology.
  • For further training, our program offers fellowships in echocardiography, fetal echocardiography, heart failure and transplantation, interventional catheterization, pulmonary hypertension - critical care and advanced imaging.

Why choose University of Alberta for the Pediatric Cardiology Residency Program?
