Proposal Process

Signatures for e-submissions

All electronic submissions of an application or proposal require all University of Alberta signatures requirements on a printed copy of the application prior to submission.

The proposal process in the Department of Pediatrics is consistent with the policies and procedures of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.

Department Proposal Process

The Department of Pediatrics is committed to facilitating grant applications in a timely, efficient manner, as illustrated. Please follow the steps below.

  1. Grant application is submitted to Department of Pediatrics for review, along with the Pre-Submission Supplementary Signature Page, if applicable. (Note: The department cannot interface with online applications such as CIHR; signature pages and supporting documentation must be printed off and submitted to the department.)

  2. The department conducts an administrative review (one to two day turnaround).

  3. The chair of the department signs the grant application.

  4. The principal investigator (or designate) is contacted to retrieve grant once the chair has signed to be taken for Faculty and Research Services Office (RSO) sign-off.

  5. Once signed off, the grant application is ready for submission to the funding agency.

University Signature Process

The following signature process information can be found through the Research Services Office.

In addition to the signature requirements of the sponsor, the U of A also has signature requirements.

All applications and proposals submitted for external funding must be signed by the:

  1. U of A principal investigator
  2. U of A co-investigator(s)*
  3. U of A principal investigator department (chair or vice chair)
  4. U of A Principal Investigator Faculty (dean or delegate)
  5. Research Facilitation Office/Research Services Office on behalf of the institution.

An email or letter from the U of A co-investigator's department or faculty MUST be included if new or additional resources are being committed from the department or faculty, (except when the co-applicant(s) are from the same department as the principal investigator).

*The pre-submission supplementary signature page must be completed if there are U of A co-applicants.

NOTE: External co-investigator signatures are only collected if required by the sponsor.

Those signing on behalf of the department or faculty who are listed as the principal investigator or co-investigator may not sign their own applications. They are required to obtain signatures from a designated one-over approval. Please contact the research facilitator for your faculty for advice as to who should provide the "department" and "faculty" signatures. Signatures should be obtained in the order listed above.
