Awards, Scholarships, Bursaries, and Loans

Undergraduate Awards

Over 50 faculty nominated undergraduate awards are available to Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences students annually.

With certain exceptions, all students are automatically considered for all faculty selected awards. However, to facilitate faculty adjudication and selection, all undergraduate student pharmacists wishing to be considered for these awards should complete and submit a Student Awards Profile by May 31st. This is a very important component of the adjudication process; Ensure that you submit your Student Awards Profile to ensure that monies do not go unawarded! By completing this profile our committee can ensure all criteria are met, including:

  • Professionalism
  • Contributions to student life in the Faculty or University
  • Personal and professional qualities and interests which may ultimately contribute to the advancement of the Profession in Pharmacy

The following awards are exceptions to this rule and have specific nomination procedures or application forms which may include reference letters. Please consider these awards promptly, to allow your referee enough time for letter preparation and submission by the deadline:

Aceel Nashi Award for Undergraduate Pharmacy Students

Criteria: To be awarded to a first-year Pharmacy Student with satisfactory academic standing who has demonstrated a commitment to community service, volunteer activities and aspired to become a preceptor when appropriate within their own career.

Application Deadline: May 31st

Value: $1500

Nahid Ramji Memorial Scholarship in Pharmacy

Criteria: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering the third year of the undergraduate Pharmacy degree program. Selection based on demonstrated professionalism, passion, pride and enthusiasm for pharmacy through volunteering and participation in University, Faculty and community activities.

Application Deadline: May 31st

Value: $900

Pharmacy Travel Awards

Criteria: To be awarded annually to undergraduate student(s) with satisfactory academic standing entering the final year in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. This award is given to support student expenses (travel and accommodation) incurred during the students' clinical rotation provided it is within the Province of Alberta. Preference will be given to students who are completing their rotation in more remote sites and have a demonstrated financial need.

Value: $500

The JA Bachynsky Pharmacy Travel Award

Criteria: To be awarded annually to senior pharmacy students with satisfactory academic standing to assist one or more in undertaking professional education abroad as part of a University of Alberta degree in Pharmacy. The recipients will be selected on the basis of professional leadership, academic standing, and a demonstrated contribution to their career goals.

Application Deadline: May 31st

Value: $750

Value Drug Mart Leadership Award

Criteria: To be awarded annually to a student with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in the fourth year of studies in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. A recipient will be selected on the basis of demonstrated leadership skills, potential through involvement in community and/or extracurricular activities, and on academic standing.

Value: $5400


Over 30 bursaries are available to student pharmacists.

The Supplementary Bursary program offers bursary funds to students experiencing an overall financial shortfall during their academic year. Bursary funds can be used to pay tuition and fees as well as essential living expenses. Bursary funds do not have to be repaid. Student's can apply for a Supplementary Bursary once per academic year (September through August).
