Antoine Noujaim Graduate Scholarship in Pharmaceutical Sciences

Endowed by the late Dr. Antoine Noujaim

Eligibility: Awarded annually to a full-time student registered in a master's or doctoral program in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Awarded on the basis of overall academic excellence and achievements. The scholarship may not be held concurrently with another award whose value is greater than $10,000.

Shire Canada Inc. Graduate Scholarship (formerly Biochem Pharma Graduate Scholarship)

Endowed by Biochem Pharma

Eligibility: Awarded annually to a full-time student with superior achievement registered in a graduate degree program in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences who is specializing either in oncology or anti-infectives. Part-time students are eligible for this award.

BMO Financial Group Graduate Scholarship

Endowed by BMO Financial Group to support the recruitment and retention of outstanding graduate students at the University of Alberta

Eligibility: Awarded annually to a student registered in, or admitted to, a full-time PhD or thesis-based Master's program at the University of Alberta. There are no restrictions on citizenship and all disciplines are eligible for funding. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of superior academic achievement (minimum grade point average equivalent to 3.5 on the University of Alberta grading scale) and demonstrated research ability or research potential.

Delta Delta Delta Alumnae Fellowship

Endowed by Delta Delta Alumnae of the University of Alberta

Eligibility: Awarded annually to a woman student of outstanding academic merit who has graduated from a degree program at the University of Alberta and is entering or continuing in a full-time graduate degree program at this university. Preference will be given to a student entering the first year of a graduate degree program immediately following her undergraduate degree.


Dr. Ed Knaus Graduate Scholarship in Pharmaceutical Research

Endowed by Dr. & Mrs. Knaus and his colleagues and students on the occasion of Dr. Knaus's retirement following 38 years of service with the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

Eligibility: Awarded annually on the basis of superior academic achievement (equivalent to a grade point average of 3.5 or greater on the University of Alberta grading scale) to a student registered full-time in a doctoral degree program in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences who is conducting research in the innovative design, development or delivery or drugs or diagnostic agents. Students registered in a doctoral program are eligible to hold awards during years one through five of their program.

Dr. John Samuel Memorial Graduate Scholarship

Endowed by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and colleagues of the late Dr. John Samuel, Professor and Scientist from 1985 to 2007

Eligibility: Awarded annually to a student registered full-time in a graduate degree program in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences on the basis of superior academic standing and scholarly achievement. Preference will be given to a student with teaching experience who has made a contribution to the Pharmacy Graduate Student Association.

Dr. John Waters Memorial Graduate Scholarship

Funded by the Dr. John Waters Memorial Fund in recognition of Dr. Water's leadership in the field of public health

Eligibility: Awarded annually to a student registered full-time in the first or second year of a master's degree program at the University of Alberta. The recipient will be selected on the basis of superior academic achievement and in the field of public health with a demonstrated focus in the area of immunization and control/elimination of communicable disease and/or the promotion and protection of the health of infants and children.

Dr. Leonard Wiebe Graduate Award in Pharmaceutical Sciences

Endowed by family and colleagues on the occasion of Dr. Wiebe's retirement after 34 years of service to the University of Alberta

Eligibility: Awarded annually to a student registered in a Ph.D. program in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Alberta who has successfully completed their candidacy examination. Awarded on the basis of overall academic excellence and research achievements, the award is intended to provide assistance for the applicant to attend and present a paper at a conference of national or international scope. The application must include the name of the conference they plan to attend within the next twelve months. Previous recipients are not eligible.

Dr. Ronald Micetich Memorial Graduate Scholarship

Endowed by family, colleagues and friends of Dr. Ronald Micetich, Professor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and a Faculty member at the University of Alberta (If funding is available)

Eligibility: Awarded to a student registered full-time in a doctoral degree program in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences who is conducting research in the area of pharmaceutical sciences. Preference will be given to an international student. Awarded on the basis of superior academic achievement (equivalent to First Class standing at the University of Alberta or a grade point average of 3.5 or greater). A student may apply, in open competition, to hold the scholarship for up to four additional years. When considering an application from a student who has held the award previously, the selection committee will take research output in the form of publications and presentations/abstracts into consideration.

Ivy A Thomson and William A Thomson Graduate Scholarship

Endowed by the late William A. Thomson

Eligibility: Awarded annually to three academically outstanding students registered in, or admitted to, a master's or doctoral degree program at the University of Alberta. Recipients of the scholarship must be registered and working full-time on their graduate program during the tenure of the scholarship. This award may not be held concurrently with another major award as defined by the Graduate Scholarship Committee (value of $13,000 or greater).

Jean Isabel Soper Memorial Graduate Scholarship in Science

Endowed by the late J. Isabel Soper

Eligibility: Awarded annually on the basis of superior academic merit to a student entering a graduate degree program who will be registered full time in an area of research related to engineering and the physical sciences. There is a dearth of women engaging in scientific and technological graduate studies, for this reason, preferences will be given to women conducting research in these areas until such time as this disadvantage is overcome. If no suitable candidate is found at the time of selection, the scholarship will not be awarded in that year.

Marie Arnold Cancer Research Graduate Scholarship

Eligibility: Awarded annually to a full-time student in a graduate degree program on the basis of academic excellence and research potential who is conducting cancer research.

Mike Wolowyk Graduate Scholarship

Endowed by Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada Inc. with additional donations from colleagues and friends of Dr. Michael W. Wolowyk, Professor of Pharmacy and a Faculty member at the University of Alberta for some 20 years.

Eligibility: Awarded annually to a full-time student in a master's or doctoral degree program in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Awarded on the basis of superior academic achievement, the scholarship may not be held concurrently with another award whose value is greater than $8,000. The scholarship is renewable in open competition, for a second year.

Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada Inc. Graduate Scholarship

Eligibility: Awarded annually to three students registered full-time in graduate degree programs who are conducting research in scientific, medical or pharmaceutical areas related to pharmaceutical development. One scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student who is registered in a department within each of the following three Faculties at the University of Alberta: Medicine and Dentistry, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Science.

Pansy and George Strange Graduate Scholarship

Eligibility: Awarded annually to an outstanding student registered in a graduate degree program in the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Alberta. Preference will be given to a student who holds an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution in India. Part-time students are eligible for this award.

Pharmacy PhD Alumni Graduate Student Scholarship

Shoppers Drug Mart Graduate Scholarship in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

Eligibility: Awarded annually to four students registered in a master's or doctoral degree program in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Recipients may be nominated to hold the scholarship for a second year. Part-time students are eligible for this award.
