Graduate Scholarships, Awards, Bursaries and Funding

Scholarship competitions are held twice a year. Current eligible students will receive an email notifying them of the application deadline twice a year. The email will include the scholarship information and application form.

The eligibility criteria are as follows:
- You must be continuing in a graduate degree program or have been recommended for admission to a graduate degree program in the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Alberta to be considered in this competition.
- A first-class academic standing (3.5 - 4.0 GPA) must be maintained and is considered "academic excellence", as outlined in the eligibility criteria.
- Unless otherwise stated in the award description to take up an award, students must be registered full-time in a graduate degree program at the University of Alberta. If you are registered as a part-time student at the time of application, you may apply, however, you must register full-time to hold the award should you be nominated. Students registered in THES 919 are considered full-time.
- Applicants registered in master's programs normally are eligible to hold awards during the first two years of their program. The committee will only consider applications from a third-year master's student if there is a compelling explanation, outlined in a letter of support, from the department. This letter would be in addition to any other required letters of reference.
Applicants registered in doctoral programs normally are eligible to hold awards only up to and including the fifth year of their program. Applications for funding for the sixth year will only be considered if accompanied by a compelling explanation in a letter of support from the department. This letter would be in addition to any other required letters of reference.
