5.1 Terms of Reference

The Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies is the official representative of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to its graduate students. The Associate Dean is responsible for the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate program, oversight of the supervision of all students enrolled in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate program, monitoring the academic progress of students, and serving as the chief liaison with the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. The Associate Dean is accountable for some of the decisions regarding graduate program administration delegated from the Dean of Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, as described in Section 5.2.

The Graduate Studies Committee is responsible for ensuring the graduate program is designed and delivered in a fashion that is consistent with the faculty vision "Excellence and innovation in pharmacy education and research through learning, discovery and leadership" and the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research guidelines and policies. The four general areas of responsibility are: 1) oversee the graduate program; 2) manage the graduate curriculum; 3) make decisions on student enrolment; and, 4) make decisions on graduate and research student awards. The Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies is chair of the committee and members include the Directors of Graduate Studies from both divisions, faculty representatives from both divisions, and representatives from the Pharmacy Graduate Student Association.
