PHIL 355

PHIL 355: Environmental Ethics
Instructor: Jennifer Welchman

Course Description:

Everyone agrees we should be good stewards of the natural environment. But in whose interests does a good steward act? Can we justify acting strictly for the benefit of present and future human beings? Must we take other species' interests into account? Or even nature itself? We will explore the answers provided by a range of traditional and contemporary ethical theories and apply them to debates about animal rights, biotechnology, climate engineering, genetic engineering, and ecojustice.
