Palacky University Olomouc

Located in Olomouc, Czech Republic, Palacký University Olomouc is nestled into a historically and culturally rich community that has a strong emphasis on education. In fact, Olomouc is the top student city in the Czech Republic with every fifth person in the city being a student. With over 23,000 students from all over the world, Olomouc is often referred to the Czech Oxford.

Offering courses taught in English, you will be able to accumulate credits that are applicable to all degrees in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at the UofA.  Courses include Physical Education/Kinesiology and Recreation with a strong focus in Adapted Physical Activity. Opportunity to take Czech Language courses is also available.

 

  • Applicable Courses

    Palacky University Olomouc, Faculty of Physical Culture offers a variety of courses in english. Each semester is divided into Autumn (September-February) and Spring (February-June). It is the individual's responsibility to research the programs and courses, and to contact an advisor when program planning.

    Courses include: Physical Education/Kinesiology and Recreation with a strong focus in Adapted Physical Activity courses. There is also an opportunity to take Czech Language courses.

  • Cost Breakdown
    As a University of Alberta student, you will pay your tuition costs of $3,105.14 to the University of Alberta equivalent to 15* per semester. There is no application fee for this program.

    Funding: University of Alberta International offers an Education Abroad Individual Award for students studying abroad three weeks or longer. The award ranges from $750-$3,750 depending on the duration of your program.

    Visa: You will need a study permit for the duration of your stay in Olomouc. Visa requirements can be found here.

    Housing: University students can stay in one of the two Palacký University Olomouc campuses, these include seven dormitories. Housing is guaranteed for students and teachers from abroad.

  • Deadlines
    Application Deadline:

    March 14th each year to go abroad in the next UAlberta academic year. Example: UAlberta application March 14 of 2017, to study abroad Fall 2017 - Winter 2018.

    NOTE: Students should start looking at applying in late November/early December to give enough time for the process.
    Application Procedure for Exchange
    1. Students must research various programs/opportunities.
    2. Students must meet with their academic advisor to see how an exchange will fit into their program.
    3. Students submit their application form (accompanied by Letter of Intent, Official transcripts, References or Resume) 
    4. Students research scholarship and award funding options.


    After you application has been received and reviewed

    1. If you meet the requirements you will be contacted by the exchange advisor for an interview.
    2. Exchange advisor will inform successful applicants of their selection.
    3. Exchange advisor will nominate student(s) to host institution.
    4. Student will request transfer credit from program office.
    5. Upon receiving their letter of acceptance, the student will sign a registration form.
    6. Students must attend a Pre-departure session (hosted by UAI), submit a pre-departure check list, and register with UGO off-campus travel registry.
    7. Post-exchange, the student will submit a report outlining their experience (city, academics, accommodations, administrative requirements, etc).

      1. Consider acknowledgement form and Information Release waiver to application form.
    4. The exchange advisor interviews applicants that meet the requirements.
    5. Exchange advisor will inform successful applicants of their selection.
    6. Exchange advisor will nominate student(s) to host institution.
    7. Student will request transfer credit from program office.
    8. Upon receiving their letter of acceptance, the student will sign a registration form.
    9. Students must attend a Pre-departure session (hosted by UAI), submit a pre-departure check list, and register with UGO off-campus travel registry.
    10. Post-exchange, the student  will submit a report outlining their experience (city, academics, accommodations, administrative requirements, etc).
  • Requirements
    1. Be a current student in the Faculty 
    2. GPA requirements – Minimum GPA requirement for exchange is 2.7 in most recent semester and 2.5 overall (minimum). (NOTE: a higher GPA may be required to be competitive depending on the applicant pool each year).
    3. Must have completed at least 18-30 credits (2 terms of full-time status) at UAlberta before going abroad.
    4. Applicants must be registered as a full-time U of A student with at least 3* credits remaining in their degree.
