It's Busy Season for Bike Thieves

July, 2017

Bike thieves are very active all over Edmonton and the university area is not immune. UAPS has caught a few thieves and will continue our efforts but we need you to do your part, so:

INVEST IN A U-LOCK

U-locks are extremely difficult to defeat and provide the best security (view this video made by the Edmonton Bike Commuters).

SECURE YOUR BIKE PROPERLY

Always lock your bike frame to the rack; secure any quick release tires to the frame (see below).

RECORD YOUR BIKE'S INFORMATION

Ensure you know your bike's make, model, and serial number. This information greatly increases the likelihood of your bike being recovered by police and returned. Consider registering your bike with Project 529 (www.project529.com). This registration is free for university staff and students. Visit UAPS in the Education Car Park.

REPORT ALL SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

Report anyone pulling on bikes, using tools, or loitering around bike racks to UAPS by calling 780-492-5050.
