Student Conduct and Accountability

Jurisdiction

The policies of jurisdiction include the Code of Student Behaviour ("the Code"), and the Student Conduct Policy (SCP). SCOs make decisions on two matters:

  1. whether the alleged activity was a violation of a policy, and
  2. if we find that it was, what the appropriate sanction(s) would be.

In making any decision about sanctions, we balance the rights of the student under allegation, fairness for those impacted by the alleged violation, and the safety and integrity of the community.

In addition, Student Conduct and Accountability acts as a repository of knowledge and experience on addressing student conduct, providing support and advice to other offices engaged in addressing or supporting conduct processes.

To make a complaint about academic misconduct, visit our Reporting Misconduct section. Note that colleges and independent faculties may have varying intake processes for reporting academic misconduct. It is always best practice to raise the issue with the instructor of the course and check in with your administrative unit.

To make a complaint about non-academic student misconduct under the Student Conduct Policy, contact the Office of the Dean of Students at dosdean@ualberta.ca. If there is a safety risk as a result of a student’s conduct, please contact University of Alberta Protective Services at 780-492-5050.
