About Us

The primary function of Student Conduct and Accountability (SCA) is to render decisions for cases of both academic and non-academic misconduct.

Academic Misconduct:

  • We receive recommendations for severe sanctions under the Code from Faculty Deans in cases of academic misconduct, including Inappropriate Academic Behaviour. Severe Sanctions include suspension or expulsion. All other cases are resolved at the Faculty level.

Non-Academic Misconduct:

  • We receive cases accepted by the Dean of Students office for consideration as to whether a student violated the Student Conduct Policy. The investigators provide us with a report of the facts related to the case and we base our decisions on the information in the report and our meetings with the complainant and respondent.

Our task is to make decisions on two matters: first, whether the alleged activity was a violation of the policy, and second, if we find that it was, what the appropriate sanction(s) would be. In making any decision about sanctions, we must balance the rights of the student under allegation, fairness for the victim(s) of the alleged violation, and the safety and integrity of the community.

In addition, Student Conduct & Accountability acts as a repository of knowledge and experience on addressing student conduct, providing support and advice to other offices engaged in addressing or supporting conduct processes. The Director and Student Conduct Officers provide advice and suggestions on appropriate ways to engage conduct processes.
