Every year, injuries take the lives of more than 2,200 Albertans. They kill and disable grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, children and friends.
Injuries pose a real threat to public health, the well-being of Albertans and the sustainability of our health-care system, costing the province about $4 billion each year.
The good news is that injuries are preventable.
On October 17, 2018 the Injury Prevention Centre hosted this public lecture to mark its 20th anniversary, discussing how to overcome the invisible epidemic of preventable injuries.
Regrettably, Don Voaklander was unable to give this lecture. Kathy Belton, associate director of the Injury Prevention Centre, made the presentation in his place.
