Analysis and Modeling of UPDRSIII Score of Movement Disorders
Authors' name: Xilai Fu, Yan Yuan

Introduction: Movement disorders jeopardize the life and recovery of patients. The severity of movement disorders is commonly measured by Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRSIII). The aim of this study is to examine and model UPDRSIII score over time in PD patients diagnosed with Parkinson Disease(PD) collectively and individually.

Data were extracted from 240 deceased movement disorder patients from Kaye Edmonton clinic. I am working on the project with Dr Yan, Dr Miyasaki, and Tina sang at ECHA.

By figuring out the individual model for each patient, we can help neurologists get an understanding of the efficacy of their treatments on patients.

Conclusions: from the previous analysis, they are expected to have an assessment score curve that presents a linear increasing trend with time. However, in my current analysis, apart from the patients who are consistent with our expectation, our data suggested other patterns of trajectory. Therefore, there is an individual discrepancy among PD patients in terms of responsiveness to medication. Potentially, the effect of medication could vary from person to person and time to time, which might account for the unexpected trajectories. Thus, it is of interest to explore the individual difference of movement disorders and medication effect for future work.
