Constantine Karvellas

I have broad research interests in health outcomes - striving to improve both patient care and resource utilization focusing on critical care hepatology and implications on resource utilization with transplantation.

As a practicing intensivist and hepatologist my research interests include, but are not limited to:

  • Acute liver failure
  • Acute on chronic liver failure (cirrhosis and critical illness)
  • Clinical outcomes in liver transplantation
  • Artificial liver support/extracorporeal blood purification
  • Neurological complications of liver disease
  • Intensive-care unit nutrition
  • Palliative care in cirrhotic patients

I have Royal College Physicians and Surgeons of Canada designation in internal medicine, gastroenterology and critical care medicine.

I am an active member of the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group, among others. I am also the only Canadian member of the United States Acute Liver Failure Study Group. I have been able to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to in order to advance the discipline of critical care hepatology internationally and clinical epidemiology nationally.
