Influenza (the flu) is a contagious virus that anyone can catch. Flu season generally runs from October to late April / early May in Canada, with the peak flu season taking place between December and February.

Canada has a national surveillance system called FluWatch that monitors the spread of influenza and influenza-like illnesses. The system produces weekly reports, accessible to the public, that provide a national picture of influenza activity in Canada.
