In the Centre for Healthy Communities, we support Canadians in helping their communities, of all shapes and sizes, to achieve their healthiest potential.
We seek to do this by:
- providing access to necessary information, people and tools;
- applying scientific research and experiential knowledge to build solutions for ‘real-world’ problems faced by communities;
- using innovative approaches, bringing in experts and knowledge from multiple sectors and disciplines; and
- impacting population health and applied public-health outcomes outside the health-care sector.
We recognize that diversity and equity are essential to healthy communities. We work in multiple settings—regions, communities, schools and workplaces—and with different populations to be sure our work is listening to multiple voices and representing different needs and perspectives.
We are concerned with the root causes of ill health and work to address systemic inequities that create unfair conditions and unequal opportunities for health.
