May 1 - July 31
All new students, including those studying on campus or through e-learning in master’s and PhD degree programs, are encouraged to complete SPH 101. This online course will help you become more familiar with the School of Public Health and your degree requirements, and help orient you to the University of Alberta and Edmonton (if you happen to be relocating). SPH 101 will also help model how many of your classes will be delivered or supported through the eClass environment.
It will take between 3 and 10 hours to complete this phase of orientation, depending on your lever of computer / Internet skill, public health background, program and special interests. There are several discussion forums where you can chat with other students or staff about issues related to your program, or about the university, or Edmonton. Open forums are available to ask just about any question you want–including about etiquette for online learning.
Please take advantage of this resource, and use it to help you become an active participant in the School and in your program. SPH 101 will remain open during the first year of your program so you can come back to it as a resource during the year.
