Governor General's Silver Medals, Alberta Premier's Silver Medal and RT Honourable CD Howe Memorial Fellowship

The Governor General's Silver Medal, Alberta Premier's Silver Medal and RT Honourable CD Howe Memorial Fellowship recognize the top academic students graduating from an undergraduate degree program. They are the most prestigious convocating undergraduate awards awarded by the University of Alberta.

Award values may change from values awarded in previous years.


The Governor General's Silver Medal

Value: a Governor General's Silver Medal
Number: 3

Conditions: To be awarded annually to the three undergraduate students who achieve the highest academic standing overall upon graduation from their Bachelor degree program. Recipients will be chosen from a list of nominees (one nominee per Faculty) submitted by each faculty.  Recipients will be chosen on the basis of academic standing.

Alberta Premier's Silver Medal

Field of Study: Law, Medicine and Dentistry, or Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
Value: Silver Medal
Number: 1

Conditions: Awarded to the undergraduate student who achieves the highest academic standing throughout their undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, or Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Recipient will be chosen from a list of nominees (one nominee per faculty) submitted by the faculties of Law, Medicine and Dentistry and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Selection based on academic standing and academic excellence.

The RT Honourable CD Howe Memorial Fellowship

Value: $13,500
Number: 1

Conditions: To be awarded annually to the convocating student who attains the highest overall academic standing throughout their academic program at the University of Alberta. Students completing a degree in the professional programs of Law, Dentistry, and Medicine are ineligible for this award.

Donor: This award is permanently endowed by the CD Howe Memorial Foundation in honour of the late RT Honourable CD Howe.


Chancellor's Leadership Medal

Value: Silver medal

The Chancellor’s Leadership Medal is an honorary award available to a graduating undergraduate student that has demonstrated outstanding leadership involvement throughout an undergraduate degree, while maintaining superior academic achievement in a final year of study. There is one award available.

Application Open: March 1, 2020

Closing Deadline: May 1, 2020


Eligibility

Candidates must:

  • Be a graduating undergraduate student
  • Present a record of high academic standing with a 3.5 GPA in final year of undergraduate studies
  • Possess exceptional leadership qualities as demonstrated through involvement in university or community organizations, sports, cultural, political activities, or other groups

What we are looking for

The prestigious Chancellor’s Leadership Medal is awarded to a graduating undergraduate who has shown academic achievement and commitment to leadership roles in the community, at the University of Alberta and beyond.

A well-rounded leader will:

  • Hold key leadership roles
  • Participate in a variety of activities
  • Take initiative
  • Have both community and school involvement
  • Have become progressively more involved over time
  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment
  • Have a well-rounded distribution of leadership activities that span across years in post-secondary
