Health and Wellness

The health and wellness of Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine students, staff and faculty is of the utmost importance to us. This is why we have chosen to provide accessible wellness sessions available in Corbett Hall.

Merna Schmidt, our Wellness Coordinator, joined the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine in 2018, providing mental wellness sessions (individual and group) for students, faculty and staff. Previously, Merna taught Psychology for many years, and was a Counsellor at MacEwan University. Although born in Edmonton, Merna has served abroad as a Mental Health Coordinator in refugee camps and war zones, and worked and volunteered in many countries.

In July 2019, Merna returned to the FRM in an expanded role as the FRM Wellness Coordinator. Merna will continue to provide individual and group wellness sessions as well as assist with the development of the FRM wellness framework. Individual sessions with Merna are 40 minutes long and you are free to discuss any topic you wish (not limited to academics) as each area of our lives affect the others.

Check this website frequently for information about ongoing activities and wellness news.

Merna is in Corbett Hall (3-44D) on Mondays and Thursdays. Students, faculty and staff at the Edmonton, Calgary and Augustana campuses can book appointments by emailing or dropping by 3-48 and talking to Katelyn Brown. All sessions are confidential and only Merna and Katelyn will know who accesses these services.
