Rehab Med post-doctoral fellow publishes children's book

21 May 2010

Wondering where to take the kids this weekend? Jennifer Klein, post-doc fellow, Department of Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, and Wen Kauffman have come up with an A to Z guide on fun adventures in and around the city. The book is entitled Adventures of Edmonton: Your ABC Guide with a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book going to The Centre for Family Literacy, a non-profit organization that works with families to enhance their literacy skills.

With vibrant photographs and simple captions, Klein and Kauffman have created a guide book that leads kids and their families to well-known places, as well as some hidden gems. Flip to the back of the book for tips on what to do at each site and special discounts and treasures awaiting readers at various destinations. Little ones can check off the places they have explored, add their own ABC sites of Edmonton and draw a picture of their favourite destination.

?As mothers we want to have our children better connected to the city we live in and love. The book not only inspires children to read in an interactive way but also encourages the entire family to get out and learn more about Edmonton? says Klein.

The book was a collaboration of several Edmonton residents including the authors, graphic designer, printer press, and web designer. The books will be sold at Save-On-Foods, Edmonton Valley Zoo gift shop, Greenwoods Bookshoppe, Wired Cup and other retailers in Edmonton. Books can also be purchased online at www.adventuresofedmonton.com.
