The recorded webcast of this full day event held in Nov 2013 features shoulder surgeons and rehabilitation specialists discussing the management of OA of the shoulder as well as operative and postoperative management of shoulder arthroplasty.  Also, foot and ankle surgeons presented on indications and management of ankle fusion and total ankle arthroplasty and rehabilitation as well as orthotic management of these conditions.  The webcast includes the following seven 45 minute presentations (video and powerpoint):

Dr. Martin Bouliane

Dr. Martin Bouliane is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Alberta and Surgical Co-Director at the Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic. Additionally, he is co-founder of the Shoulder and Upper Extremity Research Group of Edmonton (SURGE). Dr. Bouliane’s clinical specialties include shoulder arthroscopy and arthroplasty including complex revision surgery as well as orthopedic traumatology with emphasis on upper extremity fracture fixation.

Dr. Judy Chepeha

Dr. Chepeha graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in 1989, a Master’s of Science in Rehabilitation Medicine in 1997 and a Doctorate in Rehabilitation Science in 2011. She’s worked clinically at the Glen Sather University of Alberta Sports Medicine Clinic in the area of orthopedics and sports medicine. Since July 2006, she has been a full time Clinical Track Professor with the Department of Physical Therapy. Dr. Chepeha’s research interests are primarily in the area of shoulder and upper extremity assessment and rehabilitation, specifically for individuals with instability syndromes and rotator cuff pathology. Additional areas of interest are functional evaluation and outcomes and sports related injuries.

Dr. Nadr Jomha

Dr. Jomha MD, FRCSC, PhD is an orthopaedic surgeon and Associate Professor in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta.  Dr. Jomha’s clinical interests include lower extremity joint reconstructive surgery and trauma surgery.  Dr. Jomha’s research is focused on cryopreservation of articular cartilage (AC) for transplantation as well as repair and regeneration of AC using mesenchymal stem cells.  He has established a strong multidisciplinary group to develop effective protocols to cryopreserve AC and is in the process of optimizing this technique in preparation for clinical translation.

Dr. Angela V. Scharfenberger

Dr. Scharfenberger, BSc. PT, MD, FRCS(C) is a Clinic Lecturer in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta. Dr. Sharfenberger’s clinical interests include trauma & foot and ankle surgery, for which she completed specialty training following residency. Research interests include epidemiology and outcomes research, specifically in Trauma & Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Jim Toller

Jim Toller has worked in orthotics since 1982 and became a Certified Orthotist in 1985. He worked in the Glenrose Hospital Orthotic Department for 13 years, eight of those as the Chief Orthotist, and has since then worked in private practice. Jim’s specialty areas are upper and lower extremity orthotics, sports medicine, and pediatrics. He has dealt with national-level athletes in soccer, basketball, and hockey and is the orthotic consultant for several of the professional sports teams in Edmonton. He has served as the President of the Canadian Board for Certification of Prosthetists and Orthotists (CBCPO) and continues to be active in the national and provincial professional associations.
