Health research not only saves lives, it improves lives and quality of life. At UAlberta health research spans the spectrum of human health and occurs in almost all our faculties. Our work includes: physical health, wellness, mental health, health law and ethics, chronic disease, environmental health, global health, health policy, infectious disease, population health, rehabilitation medicine, physiology, nutrition, physical activity, aging, health systems, economics and equity, women and children’s health, physical activity, transplant science, chronic disease, water, imaging and diagnostics, biotech and biomedical engineering to name a few.
Research facilities + partners
Our health research faculties include: five partner hospitals, clinical trial infrastructure and multiple advanced facilities that facilitate and support our work, while our Health Sciences Council facilitates inter-disciplinary research and training across nine faculties.
Alberta health authority, Alberta Health Services, is a health research key partner. A collaboration that includes five teaching hospitals (University of Alberta Hospital, Stollery Children's Hospital, Glenrose Hospital, Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and the Cross Cancer Institute), as well as the Northern Alberta Clinical Trials and Research Centre.
Accelerating health innovation
Our health research and innovation has driven the creation of 41 health spinoffs, the vast majority Edmonton or Alberta based. Through TEC Edmonton, we are helping accelerate health via three health accelerators—TEC Health Accelerator, MerkInvents @ TEC Edmonton, and UAlberta Health Accelerator. All of which help advance emerging health care solutions and technologies and foster the growth of Alberta health and biotech companies.
