Who Can Apply

Individual researchers or groups of researchers conducting research projects within the health sciences.

Value

Varies depending on the research field, approach, and scope of the project. In the last Project Grant competition, the average U of A award was $898,329.

Duration

Up to five years

Intake

Two competitions per year: Spring (early March) and Fall (mid-September). Each competition has two phases: registration and full application.

Deadlines: fall 2024 competition

Deadlines for the Fall 2024 competition have not been posted yet. Based on previous Project Grant competitions, the anticipated deadlines are:

  • CIHR registration: August 14, 2024
  • Deadline to submit in Researcher Home Page for RAS review: August 29, 2024 (4:30 pm Edmonton time)
  • Institutional deadline (last day to submit in ResearchNet): September 10, 2024 (10 am Edmonton time)
  • CIHR application: September 11, 2024
