Celebrate Pride Week

Reagan Morris - 05 March 2021

From March 8 to 14 University of Alberta residence will be running its own pride week activities to align with pride events across campus. This will be a week of programming dedicated to loving and celebrating LGBTQ+ people.

My name is Reagan Morris and I am the LGBTQ+ Non-Academic Cohort Leader. I am so excited to be sharing the schedule for this week! Keep an eye out for more blog posts about how to be an ally and other exciting topics.

I wanted to create a week unlike any other Pride week I have seen before. As a lesbian I have unfortunately come to see that often times opportunities for queer community building are centered around shared trauma.

We deserve community beyond the confines of unity in suffering. That is why this week is all about coming together over laughs, love, and learning.

Wednesday is the final day for Bake Off submissions so get your creations in! And in the meantime, take in Pride Yoga with Janelle Snow.

Janelle Snow (she/her) RYT-200

"My journey with yoga isn’t unique. I found a practice that wove my breath together with my mind and body, and throughout the years, I have seen the difference this practice has made in me. Physically, yes, but also the profound effect yoga has had on my mental health.

I’ve been so fortunate to have teachers who continually challenge me, nudge me out of my comfort zone and taught me not to fear falling. Because sometimes you need to fall before you fly. I took my 200-hour yoga teacher training to deepen my practice and through that, I began to fall in love with teaching.

My approach to teaching is creating classes and workshops for everybody and all bodies."
