Changes to COVID-19 Isolation and Testing Requirements
05 January 2022
In response to the Omicron variant of concern, COVID-19 testing and isolation requirements are evolving.
In Alberta, if you have symptoms or if you test positive by PCR testing or by rapid antigen testing, you must isolate for at least 5 days (fully vaccinated) or 10 days (not fully vaccinated) from when your symptoms started or until they resolve (whichever is longer).
Check additional testing and isolation requirements that may apply to you:
- Government of Alberta: COVID-19 Symptoms and Testing
- Alberta Health Services: COVID-19 Self Assessment for Albertans
- Government of Alberta: Isolation and Quarantine Requirements

- U of A procedures for staff and students who are unwell
If you are isolating, please email res.support@ualberta.ca to request isolation support and include your phone number to help us respond to you quickly. Residence is unable to accommodate isolation required due to international travel so alternate arrangements must be made.
What is staying the same?
Continue to follow the COVID-19 expectations and guidelines for residents, including:
