Concerns about COVID-19 exposure on campus

20 September 2020

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has informed us that five members of the men’s residence of St. Joseph's College have tested positive for COVID-19 and are recovering in their isolation program. Out of respect for the individuals and privacy laws, we are unable to share further details about the specific cases.

Low risk in our residence communities
We have been advised by AHS that there is low risk to the other U of A residence communities. AHS has advised us that our regular residence operations can carry forward, with current health and safety measures in place.

Low risk to individuals
AHS has indicated that your risk of exposure remains low. If AHS and/or the U of A’s Public Health Rapid Response Triage Team determines that any individuals may have had close contact with the St. Joseph’s College cases, they will contact those individuals directly to provide guidance and next steps. You can learn more about precautions you can take by visiting the AHS website.

No guests allowed, including residents from other buildings
Effective immediately, the no guest policy has been extended to include residents from other buildings. This policy is in place to support the health and safety of our residence communities.

Thank you for keeping our community safe
Your safety continues to be a top priority. To everyone who has done their part by maintaining physical distancing, regular hand washing, wearing masks and respecting room occupancy limits—thank you. You are making a difference and we need you to continue to do so for the wellbeing of your friends, neighbours, classmates and support staff.
