Is there someone in your community who is an outstanding leader or role model? Nominate them for a Residence Community Award! There are many awards available, so be sure to review all the categories listed below.

Residence-wide awards

Most Outstanding Community Award

Awarded to the residence community that has made the most original strides in the current academic year to enhance the community in all areas of involvement, inclusion, and leadership. Each residence association, staff team or group of students is asked to submit a written nomination outlining the reasons it should be considered for this award. This award nomination will be reviewed by the Residence Services award selection committee. The nominated community has the option to also submit a nomination video or slideshow totaling no more than 5 minutes in length.

Service to Residence Award

Awarded to students who have been meaningfully involved for 3 years or more in residence leadership. Qualified nominees will have experience in one or a combination of Residence Association involvement, representation at a floor or area level, holding a Residence Services student staff position, or other significant involvement as determined by the selection committee. Students are eligible in the year they are leaving residence.

Golden Light Bulb Award

Awarded to the individual (or group) who implemented the most innovative program or programming idea. To be eligible the program must be new or have changed so as to significantly alter the quality and extent of impact on the individuals or the community as a whole.

Inclusion & Diversity Award

Awarded to someone who constantly promotes inclusivity within their community, while celebrating diversity and creating a residence community that is safe and accessible for people from all different backgrounds, cultures and identities.

Leadership in Residence Programming Award

Awarded to an individual who takes leadership initiative to help develop and build a community that values the six pillars of the residence community standards: community, learning, dignity, safety, equity and respect. This person encourages participation in the community, supports fellow residents, helps create a positive atmosphere conducive to academic and personal development, and has made a positive impact on their community.

Community Service & Volunteering Award

Awarded to someone who has made notable contributions to the lives of others by volunteering their time and energy, either within or outside of the residence community. This person is proud to serve their community, inspires others, can be counted on to lend a hand, and has the ability to see “what can be” along with the determination and passion to make it happen.

Academic Leadership Award

Awarded to an individual who has consistently shown dedication towards academic pursuits for themselves and others in their community. This person is a good role-model for other students in their community, upholds an achievable life/school balance, practices healthy and effective study habits, finds genuine interest and passion in their course of study, and helps others in their community achieve their own academic goals.

Distinguished Executive Community Member Award

Awarded to an executive member of a residence association who has been an outstanding contributor to their community. This award nomination will be reviewed by an award selection committee from Residence Services.

Additional Monetary Awards nominations are due March 31, 2022 through Undergraduate & Graduating Awards. All nominations must be completed online.

Residence Community Awards Week 

Award winners will be announced and receive their awards at the Residence Community Awards happening on March 25, 2022 at the Dinwoodie Lounge.

Additional monetary awards

These awards are selected as part of the Undergraduate & Graduating Awards. Applications close March 31, 2022.

Please note that these awards will not be presented on the RCA night.

Edmonton Coin Vending

Awarded annually to a student with superior academic achievement entering the second, third, or fourth year of studies in any undergraduate degree program at the University of Alberta. Recipient will be selected on the basis of leadership qualities as demonstrated by active involvement in extracurricular activities within the residence community and academic standing.

Mark Howery Memorial Award

In 1996, upon starting his degree at the University of Alberta, Marc moved into Lister on to 6 Mac. He was an active student in the community for three years before becoming the 6 Mac Floor Coordinator. Marc was a leader on his floor and a valuable asset to the very energetic and excited 1999-2000 Mac Hall Council. Following his FC term Marc moved into Newton Place to finish his degree. He spent two summers working for Maintenance in several residences. Marc graduated with a Nutritional Sciences degree and was pursuing an after degree in business when he passed away. Marc's friends, family and the people he worked with have created an award in his name.

The award includes a $1,000 scholarship and is presented to an undergraduate student from any university residence who demonstrates involvement, service, caring and compassion, dedication and leadership, participation in campus recreation or athletics, academic achievement, and/or promotion of a healthy lifestyle.

Service-Learning Award

This award includes a $250.00 scholarship and will be issued to one student who has participated in at least one Engage Edmonton event or program in the 2020/2021 school year. The winner will be chosen based on the quality of their response to the question below, with consideration for the number of hours they have contributed to the Engage Edmonton program.

Residence Life Scholarship

Awarded annually to students with satisfactory academic standing (a minimum GPA of 3.0) entering the second, third, or fourth year of studies in any undergraduate degree program at the University of Alberta. Recipients will be selected on the basis of leadership qualities as demonstrated by active involvement in extracurricular activities within the residence community and academic standing.

The Jordan & Laura Blatz Award for Community Excellence in Residence

Awarded to a Lister resident with satisfactory academic standing continuing in an undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta. Selection based on demonstrated involvement in extracurricular activities and residence life within the residence community. Special consideration will be given to involvement in a leadership capacity.

The Wade Page Award for Community Excellence

Awarded to student(s) with satisfactory academic standing continuing in an undergraduate degree program at the University of Alberta and currently or previously a Lister resident. Selection based on leadership qualities as demonstrated by active involvement in extracurricular activities within the residence community, and academic standing.
