New Residence Construction

The UAlberta Residence experience is expanding.

Extraordinary new residence construction projects have been recently completed at North Campus, supporting the overarching goal of providing well-designed, warm and inviting on-campus housing to twenty-five per cent of the UAlberta student body. These residence projects, two in East Campus as well as an additional residence tower in the Lister Centre complex, have extended the capacity for students to find their place at UAlberta, and connect on a deeper level with their peer community.

PETER LOUGHEED HALL

Peter Lougheed Hall opened in Fall 2017 and has 143 beds in one and two-bedroom dorm-style configurations. Common areas include a large inspirational space with video conferencing capabilities for social gatherings, lectures and seminars. Also included are outdoor amenity spaces, a conference room, a large and large dining hall with meal plan, as well as fitness and recreation rooms.

NÎPISÎY HOUSE

Nîpisîy House, the final large residence construction project in East Campus, opened as of September of 2018. Home to 300 upper-year (years 2 through graduation) spaces, Nîpisîy House features four and six-bedroom configurations and comprises many of the same features and community elements that UAlberta residents enjoy as well as many innovative additions.

THELMA CHALIFOUX HALL

The Lister Residence experience has expanded in support of the university objective of providing guaranteed housing to all first-year students. In addition to Lister Residences’ 1850 existing spaces, the fifth residence building, Thelma Chalifoux Hall, accommodates 426 beds and includes many innovative design features. Opened in September 2018, this fifth tower has advanced the goal of connecting residents through inviting and interactive architectural elements, creating greater access to resources, student support services and warm social spaces.

UAlberta is excited about the completion of these innovative living spaces, and there’s no doubt that any student will be able to find their fit, and experience what residence at UAlberta has to offer!
