Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology

About Us

Welcome to the website of Department of REES. Our Department is home to a group of collegial and welcoming academics and students whose work involves the application of economic and sociological theory, methods and perspectives to important problems and issues in food, agriculture, the environment, and natural resource management. Our research output positions us as the top department of its kind in Canada, and among the top 20 institutions internationally[1] .

REES professors are effective teachers who take pride in developing personal contacts with students and offer an “open door” policy in their student interactions. This approach transfers to numerous opportunities for one-on-one guidance in thesis research as well as other mentoring and learning activities for students. Our graduate students from around the world are highly engaged in the social and academic affairs of the Department and the Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology Student Association (REESSA), which contributes to a vibrant learning and social environment. The education and training provided by undergraduate and graduate programs in the Department prepares our graduates to take on various roles in addressing the myriad of issues regarding livelihood and environmental impacts across the globe.

We invite you to explore the REES website where you will find information on our people, teaching and research programs; or drop by our departmental offices for a visit. We hope that our enthusiasm will rub off on you!!
