Storage Fees

If a department receives notice from police or any external party that university property (including vehicles) has been found after a claim has been submitted, the department must promptly notify the claim adjuster. In order to avoid excessive storage fees and/or permanent loss of the property, decisions must be made as to the immediate actions required for assessment and recovery.

If a researcher receives notice while out of office on business or away on vacation, the researcher should make every effort to forward notice to the Department Chair or designate so that the issue may be addressed as quickly as possible.

Insurance & Risk Assessment will not, except in extenuating circumstances, pay for more than the following storage fees on any one claim:

  • 3 days of storage fees within Edmonton city limits
  • 5 days of storage fees outside of Edmonton city limits
  • Out-of-province fees will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis

Where prompt action is not taken by the department, the department will be responsible for all daily storage costs incurred after this time frame. If the department requires assistance to arrange for pickup of the property, please contact us at ERM10@ualberta.ca.

In the event a vehicle is to be abandoned (as approved by the listed asset manager, Department Chair, or designate), Insurance & Risk Assessment must be notified so we can file for potential financial recovery with Service Alberta.
