6 October 2015

We are proud to announce the launch of a new funding opportunity for Oral Health Community Engagement research for the University of Alberta's School of Dentistry.

The School of Dentistry has received a generous donation from the Edmonton & District Dental Society (EDDS) to create an Oral Health Community Engagement Fund (OHCEF) in celebration of their 100th year anniversary. In keeping with the EDDS Mission to "promote dentistry as a profession contributing to the community", the purpose of the donation is to support community engagement research with the involvement of the School of Dentistry in the provision of oral health care to vulnerable and underserved populations, and to provide students with meaningful community engagement experiences.
Research projects may include, but are not limited to:
  • Supporting student involvement in initiatives for the improvement of oral health of disadvantaged, vulnerable or underserved communities. Communities may be defined as a particular population group such as elderly, chronically ill, mobility challenged, new immigrants, or inner city poor. Communities may also be defined as a geographic region such as urban, rural, aboriginal or developing country. Initiatives may include development, implementation and evaluation of new models for oral health care delivery in these communities.
  • Developing socially responsive leadership to address oral health care needs and challenges in communities.
  • Supporting student engagement in public health research for improved quality, equity, relevance and effectiveness in oral health care delivery.
  • Investigating issues relevant to vulnerable and underserved populations to improve their oral health and overall well-being.
The Principal Investigator(PI) may be a faculty member, post-doctoral fellow or graduate student providing applications by a graduate student PI includes a faculty member as a co-PI.

There will be TWO COMPETITIONS each year. The proposals will be evaluated by a peer review committee.

The maximum amount of a grant awarded by this fund will be $5,000.00.
