Day in the life of Dr. Gibson

28 September 2017

Dr. Monica Gibson has been with the School for just over a year. She's an assistant professor in periodontology and also a new mom to an adorable little girl. What would she be doing if she wasn't a professor? Take a moment and find out.

What do you do within the Department/School of Dentistry - in other words, what is your role?

I am an Assistant Professor in Periodontology.

What is one of your proudest moments at work?
My proudest moment at work has been seeing the start of the new grad perio residency program start this Fall.

Tell us something we don't know about you that you are okay with sharing?
Something about me is that I like to collect fridge magnet of places I visited. I think I have more magnets than space on my fridge currently!

If you weren't doing what you do now, what would you be doing?
If I wasn't a professor I would be a calligrapher. I have taken a few courses in it and I love doing it.

What's the best advice somebody has ever given you?
If you don't plan 5 years ahead, you will be 10 years behind your peers - by my PhD mentor - always encouraged me to look at the big picture and plan my future.

Favourite quote, movie or book?
I love mystery novels especially by Harlan Coben in my spare time which, I don't get anymore (new mom!)
