2018 Sock Fight donates 8,486 pairs of socks

Thank you for all the donations

26 October 2018

This year the students from SHINE organized the 4th annual Sock Drive and Sock Fight benefiting the Boyle McCauley Health Center. Through their efforts, the students lead the sock drive effort and along with faculty and staff brought in 8,486 pairs of socks for those in need within the City of Edmonton. Not only did the sock donations surpass any previous year, this year's donations alone nearly matched the last 3 years combined.

The 2019 dentistry students came away as the lead class collecting over 3,000 pairs of socks!

The Sock Drive culminated with an epic Sock Fight. A lunch-hour event was organized complete with teams comprised for faculty and staff, dentistry, and dental hygiene students. The competition was fierce between the teams with the final round showcasing the spirited 1st year dentistry students going up against the seasoned 2019 students. Though the 1st year dentistry students put forward a valiant effort, the 4th year dentistry students were crowned the reigning Sock Fight champions.

It is a credit to the students and the commitment to community and helping others to see what started as a one-time event grow into an incredibly successful fundraiser and fun lunch-hour event bringing together students, faculty, and staff within our school.

Thank you to all those who supported the cause and donated socks or monies and/or came out to play!
