Patient Policies

Appointment Cancellation
Missed appointments and/or late cancellations result in disruptions to our students' learning and delays for those individuals who need access to care. If patients are unable to come in for an appointment, they are required to reschedule their appointment at least 48 hours in advance so that it can be offered to another patient.
Missed Appointments
Missed appointments or cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice are recorded in the patient chart. If two appointments are missed without 48 hours' notice, the patient will be dismissed from the program by Patient Services and informed of such in writing. Re-admission to the Oral Health Clinic is at the discretion of the Clinical Program Director and the Associate Chair, Clinical Operations.
Children Receiving Care - Parental Obligations

Parents or legal guardians of children/minors receiving care in our clinical programs must remain in the designated KEC 8th floor waiting area while the minor is receiving care. Depending on circumstances, treatment plans can change where the dental health care provider requires the consent of the parent or legal guardian in order to proceed with treatment. Additionally, while very rare, emergency situations may arise and it is important that the parent or legal guardian of the child is present to help us provide the best care possible to the minor.

Clinical Treatment Areas
Parents, legal guardians or friends are not permitted to accompany any patient into the treatment/operatory area unless it is required for medical purposes or in cases where an interpreter is required.
Zero Tolerance for Abusive Behaviour
Our staff and students come to work to care for others, and we are committed to providing a safe, secure and respectful environment for everyone. It is important that all members of the public, our staff and our students be treated with courtesy and respect. Words or actions that make others feel threatened or shamed will not be tolerated and may result in permanent dismissal from the School of Dentistry Oral Health Clinic.
