Research Focus

The BOMRU has currently active research projects in several thematic areas.

Infectious and Chronic diseases

Studies on this area are focused on the relationship between oral and systemic diseases, and the etiology and treatment of chronic diseases such as Periodontal disease, Cardiovascular disease, HIV, Hepatitis, Neurological diseases, and other chronic inflammatory diseases and conditions.

Investigators working in this area include:

Craniofacial morphogenesis and tissue regeneration

Studies on this area focus on the molecular and cellular basis for craniofacial growth and development, wound healing, and the role of bone morphogenetic proteins in tissue development.

Investigators working in this area include:

Biomaterials and biomechanics

A number of exciting and novel areas of research are currently being investigated within the areas of biomechanics and biomaterials in the BOMRU. Research topics include the study of implant and crown mechanical response to loading, material science and mechanics surrounding polymer-based filler materials, mechanical and biological response of dental tissues to applied loading, and in vitro orthodontic biomechanical analysis.
