Application Procedures

*Important* Please do not start your application process on or near the application deadline as you risk the chance of being refused if your 3 reference letters  are not received by Feb 1st. 

Supporting Documentation

Once you have applied to our program you will be asked to upload supporting documentation and also provide email addresses of your 3 referees. Applicants will NO LONGER be mailing documents to our department. All documents will be uploaded by you to the new online application system. Your application will be considered complete when you submit the following:

  • Statement of Purpose; 
  • Curriculum Vitae or Resume;
  • Three (3) Letters to Support Application;
  • Transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.

The Committee is looking for strong indications of professional promise and the academic capability of successfully completing a graduate program. If required, the Committee may contact applicants to request clarification of questions arising from documents submitted.

Statement of Purpose

In approximately 1000 words, let us know why you are interested in pursuing your MLIS, and why you are interested in studying at our School.

Curriculum Vitae (Resume)

Current CV or resume is required for admission to the program. Information found in your CV will assist in our admissions committee's assessment of your eligibility for our program.

3 Referee Letters of Support  

You must provide email addresses of your 3 referees and the system will automatically send your referees an electronic form to complete. Once they complete and submit their form you will be notified by email. The system will keep sending reminder emails to your referees until we receive their form. (Note: the system will not email your referees an electronic form to complete until you have submitted payment for your application. It is very important that you submit payment well in advance so that your referees will have time to write and submit their letter. ) 

Academic referees are preferred; where fewer than three academic referees are available, one professional/supervisor referee is acceptable.

If you have been out of school for 10 or more years, professional/supervisor referees are acceptable.

Transcripts (from all post-secondary institutions you have attended)

You will be required to scan and upload each page (front and back) of your most up-to-date official academic documents as PDF files. All transcripts must have a recent date on which it was printed (no more than 2 years old). 

IMPORTANT: Failure to list and provide completed transcript from all institutions you attended on the application may be considered an intentional omission and will lead to the cancellation of your application for admission or withdrawal of your offer of admission.

International Students must also provide the following:

  • Transcripts or marksheets in the original language.
  • English translations of transcripts or marksheets (if the original is not issued in English)
  • Degree Certificate in the original language
  • English translation of Degree Certificate (if the original is not issued in English) 

If admitted to the program you will then be asked to submit original transcripts to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research prior to the start of the MLIS program.

Review of Applications

Review of applications will be made for all complete applications received by the School by February 1st. A complete application includes the online application form and its supporting materials. All must be received before applications can be reviewed for admission to the MLIS program.   

Applications are considered complete when all supporting documents and the application fee ($100.00 CAD) have been received.
