On July 1, 2010, Dr. Margaret Mackey began a year's sabbatical. Much of the year will be occupied in researching her SSHRC-sponsored project on the broad bibliography of books and other materials that affects the literacy development of a child reader. From July to September, Dr. Mackey will be in Newfoundland, pursuing access to materials from her own childhood - school textbooks, radio and television archives, museum artifacts, library catalogues and accession lists, and so forth. During this time she will be a Visiting Scholar at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

Next spring, Dr. Mackey hopes to spend time as a Visiting Scholar at Cambridge University, as well as making research visits to Oxford and to Washington, DC.
