The School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta is extremely pleased to announce that the American Library Association's (ALA) Committee on Accreditation (COA) has voted in favour of reaccreditation of our Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) program for the maximum seven-year term, until 2020.

SLIS Staff - 10 July 2013

The School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta is extremely pleased to announce that the American Library Association's (ALA) Committee on Accreditation (COA) has voted in favour of reaccreditation of our Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) program for the maximum seven-year term, until 2020. The COA made the decision immediately following the Committee meeting held on June 29, 2013 at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago, Illinois. You are invited to read the official decision letter from the COA.

The decision was based on the SLIS Program Presentation, the External Review Panel Report, all of the reports submitted to the COA since the last reaccreditation period in 2006, and the June 29, 2013 meeting in Chicago. The decision to grant continued accreditation to the program was based on the "totality of the accomplishment and the environment for learning" (ALA Standards, p. 5).

Earning ALA reaccreditation involves the effort of the entire SLIS community and the School would like to extend our most profound thanks and gratitude to all of those who assisted us in our journey over the past eighteen months. The next comprehensive review of the School's MLIS program is scheduled for Spring 2020.
